Inflatable Radar Reflector Type ESE-R2 MED Certification

This notice is to inform that the following certificate issued under Annex A.1/1.33 of the Marine Equipment Directive for the Inflatable Radar Reflector Type ESE-R2 manufactured by Edwards Safety Equipment is not valid for the use stated in the certificate:

   Lloyd’s Register No. MED0650016 EC Type Examination (Module B) Certificate issued 12th January 2006.

This describes the product as a Radar Reflector for Lifeboats and Rescue Boats. This is incorrect; the product is certified for use on inflatable liferafts only.

The following certificate applicable to Inflatable Radar Reflector Type ESE-R2 is valid for use on inflatable liferafts:

   Lloyd’s Register No. SAS S060009 Certificate of Type Approval issued 12th January 2006

Noting the level of performance provided by the type ESE-R2, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency will allow 3months for any installation on Lifeboats or Rescue Boats to be replaced by the appropriate correctly certified equipment.

Companies should contact their MCA Customer Service Manager if they have any queries relating to the meeting of this requirement.

No action is required with respect to the installation of this product on liferafts.
