Maritime Health Seminar 2011

Fitness and Fairness

This year's seminar focussed on Fitness and Fairness - examining the implications of the Equality Act and focussing on how MCA, Approved Doctors and Medical Referees strike a balance between ensuring that safety and health risks at sea are minimised, while at the same time ensuring that as many people as possible are able to continue working as seafarers.

We also had guest speakers regarding certification of wind farm workers and a presentation regarding how seafarers' medicals fit into the overall work of the MCA.  Dr Tim Carter hosted the day and provided key information regarding the medical fitness standards and audit issues.
