Human Element Advisory Group (HEAG)

The Human Element Advisory Group was established on 3 May 2006.  Its aims are to:

  • To contribute to MCA’s outcomes of safer lives, safer ships and cleaner seas by obtaining the views and opinions of all of those with and interest in human element matters as applied to British shipping – afloat and ashore.  
  • To use those views and opinions in the development of MCA policy, strategy and tactics for safer maritime activity through the application of human element principles and best practice to the design, construction, maintenance and operation of British ships and their systems.  
  • To use those views and opinions in the establishment of MCA lines to take in international discussions on human element matters and shipping.  

Meetings are co-ordinated by MCA and held at approximately four monthly intervals, where possible at different venues in the UK.  Membership is encouraged from a wide range of organisations with an interest in maritime affairs, and currently includes representatives from:
