Consultation on a Draft M arine Guidance Note (MGN) entilted "Survival craft weight increase from water ingress"

The draft MGN which recommends the weighing of a vessel's survival craft in order to identify weight increse, and halt it at the earliest opportunity before perfromance is impaired or an accident caused as a result of the weight increase.

The draft MGN contains information on why and how water ingress can lead to a survival craft gaining weight. It goes on to give guidance on maintenance, weighing of the survival craft and the subsequent actions to be taken if overweight survival craft are identified on board.

This consultation has been sent by email having been deemed the most appropriate method of distribution.
