Consultation on Servicing of Inflatable Liferafts, Inflatable Boats, Rescue Boats, Fast Rescue Boats, Inflatable Lifejackets and Hydrostatic Release Units

13th January 2012 - 6th April 2012 (12 weeks)

Consultation on a Draft Marine Guidance Note (MGN) entitled "Servicing of Inflatable Liferafts, Inflatable Boats, Rescue Boats, Fast Rescue Boats, Inflatable Lifejackets and Hydrostatic Release Units."

The draft MGN contains information on the service requirements for inflatable items of Life-saving appliances. Previous versions of this document (MGN 339, 317, 274 & 182) contained an Annex, listing the MCA approved service stations. Due to the burden of anually revising this Marine Guidance Note, and the limited reliability of the list after publication, the decision has been made for the latest revision of the MGN, not to contain this Annex. This information will now be available online and can therefore be updated instantly enabling an up to date source of information.

The MCA is specifically interested during this consultation, to receive feedback on the inclusion of the MCA Safety Equipment Advisory Committee (SEAC) developed standard contained Appendix 4 on the "STANDARD FOR THE CONDITIONS FOR THE APPROVAL OF SERVICE STATIONS FOR SMALL CRAFT INFLATABLE LIFERAFT." Although this standard itself is not open to consultation, having been produced by SEAC, its inclusion in the MGN is open to comments.
