CONSULTATION ON PROPOSALS FOR NEW MERCHANT SHIPPING AND FISHING VESSELS (HEALTH AND SAFETY AT WORK) REGULATIONS TO IMPLEMENT EU CHEMICAL AGENTS AMENDING DIRECTIVE 2009/161/EU
CONSULTATION CLOSES 12 MARCH 2012
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency’s (MCA) has prepared Consultation Documents in relation to its proposals for new Merchant Shipping and Fishing Vessels (Health and Safety at Work) (Chemical Agents) Regulations to implement EU Directive 2009/161/EU which introduces indicative occupational exposure limit values for 18 chemical agents additional to those contained in earlier Directives which were implemented by the Merchant Shipping and Fishing Vessels (Health and Safety at Work) (Chemical Agents) Regulations 2010. Additionally the proposed Regulations amend the indicative occupational exposure limit value for Phenol which was contained in the earlier Regulations and also make a correction to those earlier Regulations.
The main aims and objectives of the proposed Regulations are to implement the Directive for the merchant shipping, fishing, yachting and code vessel sectors. The provisions of the Directive have already been implemented for land-based workers.
It is intended that the new Regulations will be brought into operation as soon as possible following the close of the consultation period.
The MCA seeks your views on the proposals contained in the Consultation Documents and, in particular on the assumptions relating to costs and benefits set out in the draft Impact Assessment.
