Informal Consultation on amending:
The Merchant Shipping (Inland Waterway and Limited Coastal Operations) (Boatmasters’ Qualifications and Hours of Work) Regulations 2006
Consultation from 14 December 2009 to 7 March 2010
We would like to thank everybody who responded to our informal consultation on amending the BML Regulations. In total we received 84 responses from individuals, operators, trade associations, regulators, trusts, training establishments and unions.
Please find below links to the statistical overview of the responses received. Responses are separated out into those from the operators/regulators pertaining to the river Thames and responses from the rest of the country. The reason for this separation is that on most issues there was a very clear divide between the opinion of those operating on the Thames to the rest of the country. Whilst the strength of feeling from individuals working on the Thames will be taken into consideration, in order to gauge the opinion of others around the country this necessitated the separation of answers from the Thames.
Statistical Overview of Responses
Due to the volume of responses received, it is not possible to publish every response or provide individualised comments to all respondents. However, through the consultation responses published in the link below, every effort has been made to include and respond to a selection of responses from a wide range of parties. The comments contained reflect general opinions presented as well as pertinent comments raised.
Selection of Comments Received and MCA Responses
We will be circulating a second informal consultation shortly to ascertain industry opinion on a few points that remain unclear from the first consultation. Included will be a summary of changes form the initial consultation reflecting developments in policy views. If you would like further details please contact the Boatmasters’ Licence Team at boatmasters@mcga.gov.uk
