CLYDE COASTGUARD COORDINATE SEARCH FOR MISSING MAN

Clyde Coastguard has been coordinating the search for a man believed missing overboard a yacht off Arran this afternoon.

The fishing vessel Scotia Star found the yacht in Kilbrannan Sound near Arran this afternoon. No-one was on board and the fishing vessel informed Clyde Coastguard at 2.20 pm, then towed the vessel into harbour. The Coastguard scrambled a Royal Navy helicopter from Prestwick, requested the Campbeltown and Arran RNLI lifeboats to launch and sent the Arran and Tarbert Coastguard Rescue Teams to the scene to carry out a shoreline search.

Clyde Coastguard watch Manager Graeme Watters says:
Our teams and the lifeboats have been searching throughout this afternoon in difficult conditions, but we have not been able to find any sign of the missing man. He was last seen in harbour at lunchtime. The search is continuing.
