It is rumoured that after the end of the Second World War Winston Churchill was aghast at the amount of money being spent on taxis and private hire cars. He therefore decreed that the band of ladies, who had driven him and his colleagues during the War, should be brought back to form the Official Car Service. So was born the organisation that became the Government Car Service which is now Government Cars.
In order to celebrate this anniversary the Agency has commissioned the preparation of the official history of the Car Service and on 4 November staff past and present will gather to mark the occasion with a dinner dance at a London hotel.
