How do I make a request?

Requests must be made in writing (this does not apply to a request for environmental information - such requests can be made verbally) and should include:

your name and address (physical or electronic) for correspondence;
a clear statement of the information you are requesting;
a contact telephone number in case we need to discuss your request;
the form in which you wish to receive your information.

Requests may be submitted via letter or e-mail, but we would encourage you to use the FOI request form. If you require advice or assistance in making a request please contact:

DVLA is one of six Executive Agencies of the Department for Transport (DfT), which is one "public authority" for the purposes of the FOI Act. If you think the information you are seeking is likely to be held by a specific part of DfT you may write to them direct. If in doubt, write to central DfT, who will forward your request as necessary.

Whichever part of DfT manages your request will ensure that information is reviewed across our organisation, and that you receive a full response.
