Chief Executive Message

In the year about to close we are on track to deliver all 14 key performance measures and all 19 customer service measures.
For 2012-13 we have set our sights on achieving all 16 key performance measures and all 20 customer service measures.

In 2010 we embarked on a further round of efficiency and centralisation to reduce our annual operating costs by £100 million a year by 31 March 2015 compared to the 2010 baseline. In 2012-13 we will follow through on the consultation exercise Simon Tse Chief Executive and Accouting Officerabout transforming DVLA services which also includes the proposal to centralise activities from our local office and enforcement network. If this goes ahead, it is expected to contribute around £30 million a year towards the target savings.

In 2011-12 we have prepared the ground for a re-let of our major ICT contract, comprehensively consulting with the market and with key stakeholders in government. It is our intention to evolve a more flexible architecture and database structure which will be easier to maintain and stand us in better stead to deliver change in the future. We will use current design tools avoiding choices that would limit future development and will deliver a number of urgent ICT projects. We will run the early stages of this work to support and interact with our preparatory steps towards a new IT contract let from 2015.

We have another ambitious year ahead.

Simon Tse
