Sustainable development action plan
The Greening Government Commitments calls for a 25 per cent reduction by 2014-15 from a 2009-10 baseline. No annual interim targets have been agreed for DVLA. We have a number of plans in place for achieving the 2014-15 targets.
* During the next few months, this study into optimising the energy use on the Swansea estate will be completed. Initial findings are suggesting investment can achieve a 40 per cent reduction in tC02e once finished. The disruption of the heating/cooling systems to undertake the necessary work will cause a temporarily increase in the energy consumption and its related CO². Any significant investments in changes to the estate aimed at reducing emissions this year may well be offset by the proposed optimisation of the energy used on the Swansea site. However, we have smaller initiatives planned that will not be compromised by the optimisation and will help maintain current levels.
*Irrespective of the outcome of the consultation on the local office network, there will be an increase in travel miles this year. Whilst we are doing everything to minimise the emissions from travel, such as encouraging the use of public transport it will be a challenge to keep our emissions in line with 2011-12.
