DSA’s national standards

Standards for driving and riding

DSA’s national standards set out the skills, knowledge and understanding that DSA believes are required to be a safe and responsible driver or rider.

The Safe and Responsible Driving Syllabus sets out an approach to delivering effective learning for drivers. The compulsory basic training (CBT) syllabus and guidance notes set out what should happen on CBT courses for riders of mopeds and motorcycles.

The competence frameworks set out the ‘building blocks’ on which the standards were constructed. Through these frameworks it is possible to identify the original research, statistics, professional opinion and so on which underpin the standards.

Driver/Rider Training Standard

DSA’s National Driver/Rider Training Standard™ builds on the Driving and Riding Standards. It sets out the skills, knowledge and understanding that DSA believes are required by professional instructors to provide effective and appropriate training to drivers and trainers.

Drink drive rehabilitation

DSA has published a syllabus for the delivery of drink drive rehabilitation (DDR) courses. The content of this syllabus is not specifically about driving or riding. Its aim is to motivate and support offenders to return to safe and responsible driving behaviour.
