Public Consultation - Local Transport Notes on walking and cycling
The Department for Transport occasionally issues advice to local authorities in the form of Local Transport Notes (LTNs). We are now circulating two draft LTNs on providing for pedestrians and cyclists for a wide-ranging public consultation. I would like to offer you an opportunity to comment.
The following draft documents are enclosed;
- LTN 1/04 Policy, Planning and Design for Walking and Cycling . This is a new document which brings our policies on walking and cycling together for the first time. It pulls together a considerable amount of existing guidance from various sources, and links it with other policy areas, e.g. Health, Land-use Planning, and Social Inclusion.
- LTN 2/04 Adjacent and Shared Use Facilities for Pedestrians and Cyclists . This document updates LTN 2/86 Shared Use by Cyclists and Pedestrians published in 1986.
The appendix to this letter contains a questionnaire which includes a list of particular issues on which we invite comments. There are three ways in which you can respond;
a) In writing: Complete the attached questionnaire and send it to the address at the top of this letter. Please mark it for the attention of Dominic Corby.
b) By Email: Send comments to LTN.consultation@dft.gsi.gov.uk.
c) Online: You can find the attached questionnaire by going to our website http://www.dft.gov.uk/local-transport then selecting "Consultation Papers" followed by the heading "Local Transport Notes on walking and cycling".
You can also use any of the above methods to request further copies of this letter and the draft documents (in Braille if required).
If you received this letter as a member of a council, interest group, or any other organisation, you are probably the only representative contacted. If you are not directly concerned with walking and cycling issues, I would be grateful if you could forward this letter to the person in your organisation who has responsibility for these topics.
If you are responding as a member of an interest group, rather than as an individual, you may wish to submit your comments through the offices of the group.
The deadline for receiving your comments is 13 August 2004.
