| Statistical Report Form MGNSRF |
The information and data recorded during the reporting of a road traffic collision fulfils a number of purposes. It allows the collision to be properly investigated; it provides a record of the occurrence; and it provides statistical data which can be used by police to inform intelligence led enforcement; by highway authorities for casualty reduction purposes; and by government departments to underpin research and legislative changes.
The importance of recording this information as accurately as possible cannot be overstated. The detail on these forms allows highway authorities to create stick diagrams of high risk collision sites which demonstrate relative directions of travel and provide a picture of the prevalent cause of collisions at the location. Changes to highway design can then be tailored to the circumstances.
Other data helps to identify trends in collision causes, such as the use of mobile telephones. This, in turn, underpins the creation of new law. Whilst recording this information may be a little time consuming and appear remote from the collision investigation function, a little extra care in the completion of these forms can ultimately pay rich rewards in reducing casualties.
Some fields have a grey background. These need not be completed unless your police force hasnt taken steps to overcome duplication by changing back office processes. Your force will have indicated whether it requires duplicated entries.
