Funding

Funding of up to £40 per young person trained is available to School Games Organiser Host Schools to deliver Bikeability Level 2 and 3. Here’s how you apply:

Step 1 – Develop your bid

Contact your local authority to find out if they already deliver Bikeability training to your schools. Understanding existing provision will help you decide which schools you want to deliver in, how many young people you are able to train, and how you plan to deliver – you will need to include this information on your application form. Take a look at the Bikeability in Your School section to see the different delivery options that are open to you.

The Bikeability Support Team can put you in touch with the cycle training contact at your local authority. Please email contactus@bikeability.org.uk

Step 2 – Submit your application

Applications are made through the Youth Sport Trust. Your application will need to include a list of the schools you plan to deliver in and numbers of young people in each of those schools. Contact the Youth Sport Trust for more detailed information on the application process and forthcoming application dates for forthcoming application dates.

 Telephone 01509 225562, or email bikeability@youthsporttrust.org.

Step 3 – Application review (and initial preparation)

Your application will be considered bythe Youth Sport Trust and the Department for Transport. They may also contact your local authority to understand how what you want to do fits in with current Bikeability provision in your area.

While your application is being reviewed, it would be worthwhile doing some initial planning or preparation (for example by talking to another School Games Organiser Host School who is already delivering) so that you are all ready to go if your application is successful.

If you are successful, you will be awarded funding (in one single payment) to support delivery at Level 2 and/or Level 3. The funding needs to be spent within the identified grant period. If there is any underspend at the end of this period you will be required to pay it back.

Step 4 – How are you getting on?

You can now get on with delivery! You will need to report back biannually to the Youth Sport Trust on progress against your targets – the numbers of young people trained and in which schools the funding has been spent.
