Course Manuals
If you are a National Standard Instructor and you are interested in registering your own Bikeability scheme then you’ll find ready made courses for each of the levels here.
There are three levels of Bikeability and you can apply for registration for Levels 1, 2 and 3. You may have already developed your own course for each of these levels based on the National Standard outcomes, but if not there are three ready made courses here that meet all the criteria.
Each level reflects the National Standard outcomes, although in most cases it will need some adaptation to suit your own style of training. If you use this course then you will not be required to submit the manuals as part of the registration process; just clearly state on your registration submission that you are using the ‘off the shelf’ course and are therefore committing to delivering your cycle training as stated in the downloadable document.
Level 1 Course
This course consists of 3 hours tuition delivered in one or more sessions with a ratio of one instructor to 15 trainees or less. There should be two or more instructors present if possible and it must be conducted off-road.

Level 2 Course
This course consists of five sessions with a maximum of 12 children. There must be a minimum ratio of one instructor to six trainees. The first session should be at least two hours in length and include a cycle check and assessment of Level 1 skills in the playground; then four 90 minute sessions on local roads. Children should bring their own bike if possible and be able to ride it (ideally to Level 1).

Level 3 Course
The Level 3 course is usually taught 1:1 in a two hour session. In some circumstances up to 3 trainees can be taught by one instructor and the training time increased accordingly. The sessions are flexible and designed to enable the trainee to cycle where and when they want. They also involve practical advice on route planning and most aspects of everyday cycling.
