Promoting Cycling
Getting more people cycling, more safely and more often starts with letting as many people as possible know about all the benefits they can enjoy simply by using pedal power.
For local authorities promoting cycling can often mean showing that boosting cycling is a key part of the area transport strategy, as demonstrated by local transport plan commitments.
For organisations and individuals the promotion of cycling will mean marketing activities and the positive messages sent out to the local community as a result of these activities. The key to successful promotion of cycling is innovation – try to reach both core and harder to reach groups with cycling news and activities that will appeal to them.
All schemes should think about how to help individuals once they have completed the training to ensure that all trainees have the right opportunities to continue cycling as a regular activity.
