Equal Opportunities

Equality of opportunity is understood to offer fair, equal and respectful treatment to all individuals. Having an equal opportunities policy in place should remove unfair and discriminatory practices, encourage individual talent and ability and value differences.

Many organisations will already have an equal opportunities policy which you can incorporate into your cycle training course management. It is important that all instructors have a sound understanding of the contents of the policy and what this means in practice when delivering cycle training. An example of how an existing equal opportunities policy can be applied to the cycle training context is set out in the guidance document below.

Sole traders

Sole traders also need to adopt an equal opportunities policy. The policy should include a general statement on your commitment to the principles of equal opportunities, covering trainees and any other participants in your training. The guidance document below shows how an equal opportunities policy for sole trader organisations may be structured. It is good practice to adapt this document to suit the needs of your training scheme.
