Sustainable development action plan
The Government's new Sustainable Development Strategy Securing the Future was launched on 8 March, 2005.
The Strategy sets out a vision of sustainable development through to 2020, and a new purpose: "to enable all people throughout the world to satisfy their basic needs and enjoy a better quality of life without compromising the quality of life of future generations".
'Securing the Future' requires all Departments to produce a Sustainable Development Action Plan. Our first plan covered both the DfT and its executive agencies and was published in 2005. The DfT and its agencies published separate updated action plans in June 2007.
